Funding requirements are only the beginning.
Running a HAF programme means turning a long list of requirements into a real day with real children, staff, food, activities and safeguarding responsibilities.
The delivery needed to balance structured physical activity, nutritious food, enriching activities and inclusive participation — including adapting provision for children with SEND — while keeping the programme practical for the team delivering it.
Built the programme from the delivery backwards.
I supported both the setup and practical running of the programme, using the funding requirements as a framework rather than allowing them to become a box-ticking exercise.
- Planned activity schedules around HAF delivery expectations.
- Structured daily physical activity and enrichment.
- Considered food, nutrition and practical delivery arrangements.
- Planned staffing and additional SEND support needs.
- Developed inclusive activity approaches and adaptations.
- Worked with the operational and reporting requirements needed around delivery.
A programme that works on paper and in the room.
The focus was on creating a delivery model where the compliance requirements were built into the day rather than added afterwards. Activities, staffing, inclusion and monitoring could then work together as one programme.
This approach is particularly useful for small organisations that win funding but do not yet have a large back-office team to turn the specification into a workable operation.
From funding specification to deliverable programme.
The programme requirements were translated into practical delivery: what happens each day, who needs to be there, how children can participate and what evidence needs to be captured.
